New Additions

“Mars overlooking the Wolf Whisperer” is a new painting using acrylics. Is this simply a snow scene? Why is the wolf engaging with the lady in the cave?

Mars overlooking the Wolf Whisperer

Journey’s End? is another new painting in acrylics. It follows the theme from “The Forest of Uncertainty” painting from last year, in which, you, on your journey through the forest, must decide on your best path. Which of the mysterious ladies is showing you the best way to end your journey?

"To hold power is to be alone” is a new painting using acrylics. What does the King fear? Why are the trees strangely lit? Are those lights in the distance? What are they?

Featured Paintings

The Forest ofUncertainty

The Forest of Uncertainty is a painting inspired by the play of light from different light sources. It engages with the viewer, to explore what the light sources are and what the blue cloaked ladies are trying to convey. Will you take the path?

The Forest of Uncertainty was shown at the Harlow Open Exhibition (February to April 2025) and won a Highly Commended award.

It was also purchased by one of the judges!

Enchanted Puzzlewood

“Enchanted puzzlewood” was a success at the 2024 Harlow Open and was featured by the Harlow Arts Trust for World Book Day.

Both paintings are also inspired by a love for mystery and hidden meaning for the viewer to unravel.

Who is DPHS?

DPHS began painting while at school. He gained an interest in the subject after being asked to (reluctantly) colour in a drawing he had done for art class. DPHS did not know that the art teacher then entered the painting into a competition in Runcorn, UK. ….and it won! The prize was a modest set of oil paints, brushes and an easel, but it inspired a lifetime of painting whenever it was possible, in an otherwise busy life.
